On March 20th 2023 sixty-five students participated in the WCC Global Recycling Day competition to guess the weight of the cardboard bale. The bale was made from corrugated cardboard disposed of via WCC Recycling Services, and baled on Campus.
Guesses ranged from 50lbs to 2568lbs with an average guess of 596lbs and a median guess of 450lbs, so the majority of participants were guessing too light rather than too heavy.
The bale weighed 786lbs.
The winner was judged as the person with the closest guess, above or below, to the actual weight of 786lbs. Emily Baksik a WCC Student studying for her associates degree in Welding Technology won the competition with her guess of 800lbs. Congratulations Emily!
