Sustainable SWAG, Giveaways and Freebies – How to make Informed Choices
Everyone loves SWAG! Also known as freebies, or giveaways. To really work as an engagement tool SWAG should be useful, wanted, and durable. This guide is intended to help anyone giving out SWAG to make more sustainable choices when choosing which items to purchase. One gift or product will not fit every SWAG scenario and there will be other rules and factors that have to be considered alongside sustainability. Hopefully this guidance helps to you to consider the environmental impact when making SWAG choices.
Sustainability at WCC by Rebecca Andrews
SWAG, Freebies and Giveaways are used for many different audiences and events. Its use promotes ideas, brands and products. SWAG can make people feel welcome and part of a team and encourages engagement. SWAG can take many forms and the best examples result in a positive interaction and ongoing use of the item.
When buying SWAG consideration should be given to its potential negative effects on the environment. Items that quickly become discarded, or are never used for the purpose intended, can sit in landfills for hundreds of years without ever having been useful to a person. In these cases, the SWAG has failed in its promotional goal as well as being an environment burden. Additionally, the associated manufacturing and transportation emissions have been wasted.
