WCC Foundation board names new president, four new members

July 2, 2018 Richard Rezler

The Washtenaw Community College Foundation recently announced a new Chairman of its Board of Directors and the addition of four new board members. Their terms began July 1, 2018.

The Board of Directors is comprised of community leaders who volunteer their time to advance the Foundation’s mission of providing support to WCC students through scholarships and other philanthropic support, creating a better educated workforce and a stronger community. New members are elected by the existing Foundation Board.

Sean Duval, founder and President of Golden Limousines International, has been appointed Chairman. He replaces Jamie Buhr, who completed his two-year term. Buhr will continue his service on the Executive Board as Chairman Emeritus.

Other Executive Board officers for the 2018-19 academic year include Katherine Farrell, chair elect; Doug Weber, treasurer; and Nicole Torbert, secretary.

Duval, who currently serves on the board of the Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Washtenaw County Workforce Development Board, is a five-year member of the WCC Foundation board.

“I am excited, humbled and honored to follow Jamie Buhr and many other successful chairpersons as leader of this board,” Duval said. “As a board, we are committed to being a catalyst for student access, persistence and success. Our new board members will help us to be a stronger and more collaborative community partner in education, training and workforce development for years to come.”

New members of the board for 2018-19 are:

Amy Cell, who launched the Ann Arbor-based talent consulting and recruiting firm Amy Cell Talent in 2015 after working in talent enhancement for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Ann Arbor SPARK. A member of the WCC Foundation Women’s Council, Cell is also a faculty member at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

Todd Clark, the Chief Information & Strategic Innovation Officer at Old National Bank, who has served on a number of boards at community organizations, including his current roles at Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley and Grow Michigan LLC. He also serves on Old National Bank’s Executive Leadership Team.

Bhushan Kulkarni, a serial entrepreneur who has built four start-up companies over the past 25 years. He is currently CEO of two Ann Arbor-area companies: GDI Infotech and InfoReady Corporation. A strong believer in giving back to his community, Kulkarni is involved with several non-profit organizations.

David Sarns, who has 25 years of experience leading global organizations in the investment and securities field. He is a Managing Member at Key 360 Advisors, LLC and serves on a number of corporate and non-profit boards and committees, including the WCC Scholarship Committee.

Since its inception, the WCC Foundation has awarded more than 10,000 scholarships to WCC students totaling more than $6.2 million and provided more than $1.5 million in other educational and emergency support. Donors currently support more than 80 annual funds and nearly 275 endowment funds.
