Washtenaw Community College was recognized as an “Apprenticeship Ambassador” during a ceremony held at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Kyrsten Rue, Director of the WCC Center for Career Success, accepted on behalf of the college, which was one of 138 new organizations welcomed by the U.S. Department of Labor for their commitment to expand and diversify Registered Apprenticeships.
Along with WCC, the latest cohort includes organizations from emerging and high-growth industries, including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, education, financial services, healthcare and hospitality.
In a previous role as WCC’s Manager of Experiential Learning and Employer Relations, Rue helped create the college’s first USDOL Registered Apprenticeship programs, serving as an intermediary in partnerships with Toyota of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor YMCA.
The Center for Career Success’s Office of Apprenticeship is continuing to develop similar apprenticeship programs with other companies for USDOL-approved occupations.
The Apprenticeship Ambassador Initiative is made up of workforce leaders partnering with the USDOL to promote Registered Apprenticeships as a valuable workforce strategy in high-demand industries to develop and expand opportunities for historically underserved populations.
