Washtenaw Community College will host National Career Development Week and National Apprenticeship Week activities November 18-22.
It’s the 10th annual celebration of the U.S. Department of Labor’s National Apprenticeship Week, with activities designed to help students, alumni and the community prepare for a more prosperous future through hands-on apprenticeships.
The week kicks off with the virtual Employer Connect with the State of Michigan event for the public on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The discussion will introduce career opportunities available with the State of Michigan.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the college will host a variety of events related to career and apprenticeships, including:
Pop Into Your Career (1-6 p.m. in Garrett’s on the second floor of the Student Center): Activities, games, prizes and pop-themed snacks (popcorn, popsicles, ring pops) will be offered as attendees learn from local organizations offering career support. The public is invited.
Virtual Reality Career Exploration (1:45-4:30 p.m. in the Community Room on thh first floor of the Student Center): Participants can emerge themselves in various careers through virtual reality. WCC students and alumni invited.
LinkedIn Professional Headshots (1-3 p.m. in Garrett’s): WCC students and alumni invited.
Movie & Info Session (3-4:30 p.m. in Garrett’s): ,Grab some popcorn and watch a documentary published by 3M about the wide range of opportunities in skilled occupations. After the movie, there will be a short discussion about the apprenticeships WCC offers. The public is invited.
Adult Career Exploration Event (4:45–6 p.m. in the Community Room): Explore a variety of career paths in immersive and realistic virtual reality settings. The public is invited and pre-registration is required.

On Thursday, Nov. 21, WCC students and alumni are invited to a Transportation Technologies Career and Apprenticeship Fairfrom 5:30-7 p.m. in the Occupational Education Building. Local auto dealerships, transportation manufacturers and suppliers will discuss opportunities they have available.
On Friday, Nov. 22, a luncheon will be sponsored for employers in partnership with Michigan Works! Southeast to review the path to hosting registered apprenticeships in 2025. The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 1201 E. Ellsworth Road. Employers may register at bit.ly/naw24-lunchlearn.
