According to research by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), well over half of students in America who earned a certificate in the 2016-17 academic year received their credentials from a public community college.
The AACC’s analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education shows older students are even more likely than other ages to earn certificates at community colleges.
Washtenaw Community College awarded 2,568 certificates in 2016-17.
WCC offers 51 certificate programs and 26 advanced certificate programs, some of them available completely online.
Certificate programs offer specialized education and training that validates knowledge of specific skills, often in high-demand fields within the workplace.

- Advanced Manufacturing Systems (four certificates, three advanced certificates).
- Apprenticeships and Occupational Studies (two certificates).
- Automotive and Motorcycle Technology (four certificates, four advanced certificates).
- Business and Entrepreneurial Studies (10 certificates, two advanced certificates).
- Child Care Professionals (one certificate, one advanced certificate).
- Construction Technology (seven certificates, four advanced certificates).
- Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement (one certificate).
- Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management (four certificates).
- Digital Media Arts (five certificates, six advanced certificates).
- Information Technology (five certificates, six advanced certificates).
- Music and Performing Arts (two certificates).
- Nursing and Health Sciences (five certificates, three post-Associate certificates).
- Professional Communication (one certificate).
