The month of May brings excitement and joy to many people. For students, it can mark the end of one era and new beginnings as they look forward to graduation ceremonies and events.

May also happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month.  According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “it is estimated that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness." That equals roughly 67 million people.

With this in mind, the WCC Personal Counseling department encourages all who are reading this to take a moment and reflect on your own mental health. A great way to help assess our mental wellness is by taking some self-assessments. If you take a self-assessment and wish to speak with a mental health professional about the results, please feel free to reach out to the Personal Counseling team.

WCC has personal counselors available to assist students through difficult life experiences. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental illness and needs support, please consider calling 734-677-5223 to learn more about what services are available.

If you are dealing with a mental health emergency and need immediate support, call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255, 911 or visit your nearest emergency room.

As a student at WCC, you also have free access to other mental health resources:
