It’s not a surprise to many that since the pandemic, the number of individuals struggling with mental health issues has increased and the number of individuals seeking mental health services has also increased.
While the struggle is very real for many, people are clearly taking that important step to get themselves help. Here at Washtenaw Community College, we’ve seen an increase in the number of students who want to use our free counseling services. Students can access WCC Personal Counseling services if they are registered for at least one academic credit during the current semester.
Students who aren’t sure if they want to use WCC’s Personal Counseling services should at least be aware that WCC has a Care Team that can assist students with personal challenges of all types.
While some struggle with mental health, other students may have sudden physical health concerns and/or financial situations that they are having to deal with. Hopefully, these students know that they can contact WCC’s Care Team to get connected to resources – whether those exist right on campus or within the surrounding community.
Contacting the Care Team is easy. At the bottom of every page on the WCC website is a link that reads "Report a Concern/Contact CARE Team." Click that link and provide details about the situation. A Care Team member will reach out shortly afterwards to connect with the student to learn more about their situation and present options.
It’s also important to know that while students can connect with the Care Team for their own troubling circumstances, they can also use that same link to help a friend get connected with support. Not everyone may be in the mindset to ask for help, and recognizing the struggle that someone else may be going through can help WCC to build a better community of care.
