Do you ever find your emotions can get too intense? Do you ever find your emotions get in the way of being able to successfully achieve your goals or even everyday tasks? If so, you are not alone in this struggle.
Many of those who struggle with emotions of a higher magnitude find connecting with a mental health counselor to be beneficial in learning how to better manage these emotions. One type of therapy many people have found to be helpful is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, more commonly known as DBT.
In a nutshell, DBT encourages us to be aware of our emotions and to be able to articulate them, but not let them take control of us. DBT therapists can teach skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation, which are key factors in DBT therapy. There are a variety of simple skills that can be used for those who struggle with powerful emotions.
If you are interested in exploring one of these skills, you are invited to attend WCC’s DBT art therapy webinar that will be hosted from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29. Participants should have nearby blank paper, as well as art supplies such as colored pencils or markers. To join, click on this link and come ready to ‘ride the wave’!
Whether you are available to join or not, WCC students should be aware that there are a variety of free mental health resources available at WCC:
